Here are a few shots from our "test card" that I liked. We had to take 50 frames while exploring the community. Now I'm beginning work on my main story. Check out my twitter account for more details.

Welcome to Festus, MO

Welcome to Festus, Mo

MPW time

I just arrived at the hotel in Festus, MO., my new home for the next week. I'll be photographing at the 61st Missouri Photo Workshop. So, my posts will be sporadic at best, as I'll be busy finding and shooting a story. I'll try to post some stuff up here if time allows.

Had to meet a classmate at Lakota for an assignment and saw this man playing outside. He sounded good and the light was really nice falling on him so I asked if I could snap a few quick shots. He was very friendly and a talented musician. Here's his myspace page: Raven Wolf
On a photographic note, I realized lately I've been taking a lot of 'head near the bottom and centered' photos. Don't know why, just how things have been going I guess. It's funny because it's not intentional, but now that I noticed it maybe I'll stop doing it before it becomes a habit.

Advanced Techniques: Classmate Interview

We had to ask the question of: "If you were on death row, what would your last meal be and why?"

This was an assignment for my advanced techniques in photojournalism class.

Advanced Techniques: Classmate Portrait

Alex Select

Alex outtake

We had to make a studio portrait of an assigned classmate that conveyed something about the character of the person. My assigned person was Alex Browning. The top one is my select, and the second one is an outtake. Below is the lighting diagram for the photos. The second one was lit a little differently, but close enough to use the same diagram. We also had to do a video interview. Once that's uploaded I'll post it.

Our Advanced Techniques class went into the studio today for everyone to learn how to safely operate the power packs, lights, etc. I was the guinea pig photographer, and Taylor was kind enough to serve as one of the models. Here are a few quick snaps from the lighting tests. See her photostream HERE.

Advanced Techniques in Photojournalism: First Assignment

Here is the first half of a set of photos I took for my Advanced Techniques class. We had to go around and take 30 frames exploring how light interacts with a subject using different white balance settings. I'll try to post the second half tomorrow.

Copyright Update

So, for those of you wondering what happened with the photo, copyright, etc..... It has all been worked out in a civil manner. It seems as though it was a mistake and everything will be fine in the photo world once again. Compensation will be paid, and hopefully there are no hard feelings all around. Thanks.
